Superfans

To be a super fan is to be obsessed, to have an urge to need to be transform yourself or the space around into a montage of a person. A physical transformation into an artist isn’t too uncommon such as Jordan James Parke who spent £130, 000 on plastic surgery to look like Kim Kardashian. [1] Also the Shane Richie fan, Mandy Crowther spent £1000 putting Richies face all over her car- ‘I just looked at him and thought, He’s dishy’ [2]. These people are categories to have an obsession- one actively changes themselves in order to be reconsidered as his obsession and the other needs the objects around her for people to understand her love for her obsession. The physical transformation of objects compared to oneself is extremely different. It proposes two questions- how the objects around us shape who we are as individuals and what is the extremes of our need to self create. In some way Mandy Crowther believes that having these objects around her brings her closer to Richie, that she some how knows him and that he is a comfort to her. In my experiment with changing into the persona of Jesse James I focused on copying his body language but did not look at the space around me. What would I need to make a physical space, such as a home, into a work space for a persona change?
